The Arts
The Arts are powerful forms of expression that recognise, value and contribute to the unique bicultural and multicultural character of Aotearoa, New Zealand, enriching the lives of all New Zealanders.
The Arts learning area of the Curriculum comprises four disciplines: Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts.
At Waikōwhai School we focus on each of the Arts disciplines throughout the year. The specific areas are detailed in the Curriculum Overview document.
We showcase our learning frequently at our weekly assemblies and through our class web pages and blogs.
Our school productions are a bi-annual event involving the entire school .
The Waikōwhai School Art Festival is also a bi-annual event, with every child creating a fabulous piece of Visual Art.
Our school choir and Kapa Haka group are enthusiastic in participating in wider community events, eg. Matariki festivals and visiting our local residential homes.
