Student Leadership

For 2024, thirteen Year 6 students have been chosen to be in the Waikōwhai School Leadership Programme.  Student leaders are responsible for leading a sports game with their given class during lunchtimes each week.

Our students work in teams and spend time supporting their peers. Old favourites, new skills and new games are all on the agenda. Student leaders in the past have had a big impact on the feeling of well-being in the playground, and between students of differing ages.

The leadership team for 2024 are:

Charlie, Ella, Christopher, Alisha, Risha, Beckett, Leeya, Liukovi, Micah, Zara, Lewis, Stellan, Viaan

House Captains

At Waikōwhai Primary we have four house groups named after native birds. The groups are Kea (red), Ruru (blue), Tui (yellow) and Pukeko (green).

Two year six students from each house have the responsibility to lead and set a good example for other house members daily, and during special school events.

The house captains for 2024 are:

Romeo, Ronan, Saber, Mckayla, Eliza, Ryan, Isabella, Maxwell

Travelwise Team

A group of our Year 6 students have participated in Road Patrol training with the support of our Community Constable. The students have the responsibility to ensure other students cross the road safely in the afternoons.

The team are visible each afternoon wearing their high vis vests and friendly smiles.

Librarians

Each year a team of Year 5 and 6 students volunteer to be librarians. This leadership role involves a lunch time duty which involves issuing and shelving books, making recommendations for reading for other students and supporting Ms Kneller and Mrs Najak to make the library the fabulous place it is to relax and enjoy a good book.
