Mathematics Pāngarau 

At Waikōwhai School numeracy for all students is seen as a basic foundation for life. Students will be provided with opportunities to engage with and enjoy mathematics in a variety of meaningful contexts. We currently use an Inquiry Based approach to learning Mathematics with the support of the Numicon resource, recently introduced as part of the Math - Make it count government initiative. Through this approach, students participate in specific teacher led workshops that are responsive to the students current needs and build their mathematical skills and knowledge. Students then participate in mixed ability learning groups to apply their knowledge and skills to problem solve in real life contexts.
